AUDITORY VERBAL WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Home support for children with hearing loss
ABOUT AVWA
Auditory Verbal Western Australia (AVWA) is a mobile in-home service.
Home Visits
These regular visits involve working with parents in your home, targeting age appropriate listening and spoken language development through play-based and everyday activities. Alternatively, auditory verbal therapy can be taken in an intensive block to equip parents with basic strategies.

Out & About
These activities involve working with the family at a community venue e.g. at the shops, library and park to facilitate: language learning; opportunities for social skill development; and community engagement.

Single Sided Deafness Monitoring Program
This specialised program involves working with families of children with single sided deafness, to equip parents with knowledge & AV strategies pertinent to their child's hearing loss. This is achieved with an intensive 3 week block of therapy and continued monitoring of the child's development via teletherapy.

BRONWYN BIRCH
Listening & Spoken Language Consultant
Dip Tch, BEd, LSLS Cert AVT
I have worked with deaf children and their families for over 40 years and believe that offering auditory verbal therapy in the family home and working together with parents is the most efficient and effective approach towards assisting a child with hearing loss to listen and talk.
I have previously worked in partnership with 'Hear At Home', supporting families of children with hearing loss in their homes.
I provide early intervention home support for families with an NDIS Plan.

I collaborate with other professional support services to ensure families receive auditory verbal therapy best practice and capacity building support.

ABOUT AUDITORY-VERBAL THERAPY
Auditory Verbal (AV) therapy is a parent focused approach, supporting families who have a child with hearing loss to develop listening and spoken language.

An AV therapist has specialised training to support, guide and coach parents on effective ways to help their child to learn how to listen and talk.

The AV approach is diagnostic. This means an AV therapist develops an individual program for each child. This ensures the child works towards their age appropriate skills and towards integration into mainstream educational settings.

An AV therapist is certified by the Alexander Graham Bell (AG Bell) Academy for Listening and Spoken Language and abides by the 10 Principles of Listening and Spoken Language Specialist. (LSLS Cert AVT)
